Back to School Bash was a Smash!

On the Union Campus of Southwest, shortly after ten o’clock in the morning, Thursday September 11 the Back to School Bash began.  The DJ’s speakers blared with the most current hip-hop beats and the students came.  Heads were bobbing, toes were tapping, hips were swaying and even a few daring students permitted themselves to get out on into the middle of the courtyard to do the hustle. Just in time for lunch, the free food arrived.Southwest students enjoy free lunch!

Students and employees, alike, enjoyed an array of sustenance:  fried chicken tenders, hot wings, meat balls, hot dogs, snow cones and all the free sodas anyone could possibly drink.  If that was not enough, the students became acquainted with the Student Government Representatives and the Student Activities Coordinators:  Pam Powell and Phoenix Worthy.  In addition to all of the free food and the jamming grooves there was a tent set up with vendors, it resembled a mini job fair.  Southwest students enjoy snowcones!

AM South Bank was there attracting potential customers and opening new back accounts. They were giving away cups and drink cozies.  Federal Express was there trying to attract future HUB employees and also giving away fluorescent flashlight key chains with the company logo and campaign phrase “brighten your future” printed on them.  Planned Parenthood was displaying their propaganda on the right to choose and giving away pamphlets and prophylactics.  The University of Tennessee, Memphis, had a booth regarding a study that they are currently conducting on the effects of smoking and quitting.  They were also trying to solicit participants for the study.  Southwest students discover job fair.

At the Back to School Bash, the food ran out quickly, but the music and good times lasted all day.  It was a massive success.
